How are you planning to display your WordPress metrics? There are countless ways to do this. There’s a lot of data that your site provides, you want to show that and be able to interpret it all. So it’s probably a good idea to pay attention to these metrics and understand them.

Now, WordPress metrics aren’t all created equal. Some of them are more important than others. It’s important to have an overall look at all of your metrics and then make the decision of what you’ll display.

There are numerous ways to do this. You can do it yourself, you can use an in-house tool, or you can rely on a third-party service to do the work for you.

So what are the metrics you should pay attention to? They’re going to differ for each site and for different purposes.

How much traffic you have

Visits per day

Visits per hour

Number of visits per day

Number of users accessing your website

How is your conversion rate

Pages per page

How much bounce rate

How many redirects

Slow page loading time

Non-profit number of visitors

Other important factors

Just how you display them is going to be different, so it’s important to pay attention to these metrics and understand what they are. You don’t have to know every metric at the moment. You need to start small and then grow.

For example, you may only want to know the number of visits per day. You only want to focus on that. You don’t have to know that people are redirecting, that you’re getting the bounce rate, all of that. The purpose of this is just to get a general view of how many visitors your site has, and then you can put it into the context of your other metrics and your goals.

So start with your basic metrics and then from there, you can grow.

Blog Statistics

You can also display your statistics from your blog. They might be search traffic, page views, followers, comments, etc.

At the moment, I’m running a survey on my blog, so I don’t have many blog statistics. I have the WordPress statistics from the past year, but those don’t say much about my blog in the past month or week.

But I have to be honest: I’m not seeing any improvement. I don’t see any more traffic. I don’t see more people visiting my site, which is really worrying.

So, it might be time to investigate some blog statistics. This is where you can get some ideas from other people’s blog statistics, you can find some interesting stats that you’ve never noticed before, and then you can use that to show your improvements.

Traffic

The next metric that you should pay attention to is your traffic. It’s just another way to quantify how your site is doing.

My traffic has dropped by 50% since I started my business. But that’s still a lot of traffic, and I could improve my site, I could change my site. And once I improve the site, I will have more traffic, because people will notice my improvement and will come back to my site.

So it’s still worthwhile to monitor your traffic and then get back to improving your site.

Page Views

The next metric that you should pay attention to is your page views. If you increase your page views, then you’ll get more traffic.

When I started my business, I had 2,500 page views a month.

Now I get 12,000 page views a month, but I don’t get anywhere near as much traffic as before. I still get a lot of visitors, but I don’t get the kind of traffic that I was getting before.

So it would be a good thing to monitor your page views and make sure that you have an average of something like 8,000 page views a month.

How Many Retweets?

The next metric that you should pay attention to is your Twitter followers. You can get people to follow you on Twitter and then make sure that you stay on Twitter.

If you’ve got 2,500 followers, then you have to look at getting 1,000 new followers a day. I’ve got 1,000 followers and I still manage to get in touch with as many people as I need. But I’ve got a lot of new followers every week, so I don’t have to tweet as much to keep the people I’ve got interested in my business.

And then the next thing is to get retweeted on Twitter. When you retweet something, it means that more people see your tweet. So that means that you’re in the Twitter stream and more people are going to know about you.

I use that more to get more people to see my tweets. I’m more interested in being retweeted, to get more people to follow me.

How many social shares?

The next metric that you should pay attention to is how many social shares your page gets. It’s a measure of how many other people are sharing your content, your site, or your tweet.

And when you think about that, you see that social sharing works in a very similar way to sales pages. If I go to a book retailer, they’re going to recommend books to me, and they’re going to tell me what the reviews are, and so on. The idea is that I’ll recommend the book to other people. And then they’ll give me more sales because people tell their friends about the book.

It’s the same thing with Twitter and Facebook. It’s like a social recommendation. If you tweet something, people are going to retweet you, and people are going to share your content.

And it’s just another way to improve your social sharing to get more shares.

How many links are on your website?

It’s the same thing with websites. If you’ve got a really well-done website and you’ve got great content on your website, and you link to the other great content that’s out there, then you’re going to build more links to your site.

So if you’ve got 1 link, then you’re missing a page. You need at least 2 or 3 pages to make it count. And if you don’t have any links, then you’re never going to get any of those links that you need.

How much traffic do you get to your website?

Once you get a great website, you’ve got to make sure that it’s making money, and this is the first metric. How much money does your website make per day, per month?

It’s the same as with sales pages like when you make the call to your bank, they will ask you about your sales. And then you can get more loans or you can get more savings accounts or whatever it is that you need to get.

What’s your domain authority?

If you want to get a lot of traffic, you need to work on your domain authority. Domain authority is how many other people are linking to you. So if you have a domain authority of 2,500, you’re the second most important person in the world.

If you don’t, you’re nowhere. And that’s because people see your website and they go “oh, it’s got nice images on it.” So they don’t have to Google for it. They go straight to your website.

And then once they’re on your site, they see lots of nice links on the sidebar. So that’s why your domain authority matters. If you have a domain authority of 1,000, then you’re a nobody, and you won’t get much traffic to your website.

Is your site mobile-friendly?

Mobile is huge now, and it’s one of the main things that people are going to want. If you make a website that is not mobile-friendly, then you’re missing out on all of that mobile traffic.

And that’s why your SEO is going to be so important.

How often do you post?

This is another important aspect of social media. How often do you post?

If you’ve got a website, it’s like with sales pages. Once you make a sale, you’re going to want to keep people on your site, or they’ll go away and buy another product.

And that’s why a lot of people say to themselves “okay I made a sale, now I can stop blogging about this”. But you can’t do that. Because if you don’t write about it, then you’re missing out on all those valuable social shares and your SEO.

The main thing is to be consistent. If you make an announcement that you’re going to write something every day, then make that a firm commitment. Make that promise to yourself.

How many social media followers do you have?

It’s the same thing with social media. Once you get a nice audience, you’ve got to make sure that you keep them. So if you’ve got 10,000 followers on Twitter, then you should be interacting with those people every day.

Also, if you make it your intention to do something for the community, then you need to make it your obligation to stay in touch with the people that you get to know. So make sure that you keep a regular dialogue with them.

What about blogging?

Blogging is another piece of social media. It’s the same thing. You need to make sure that your blog is at least three times a week.

And that’s one of the main ways to get your links. So if you don’t make your intention to do that, then you’ll never make the link that you need to.

Does your page load fast?

This is an important thing too. If your site takes too long to load, then you’re missing out on all those mobile visitors.

It’s like with sales pages.

What about content?

A website needs content. If it doesn’t have enough content, then it’s not going to get enough links. And then people won’t link to it.

When you’re thinking about writing a blog post, make sure that it’s an opportunity for you to add value to other people. So don’t just write for yourself, or only for the benefit of your own site.

What about security?

It’s very important to make your website secure.

And that’s why it’s so important that you make your site mobile-friendly. Because with mobile phones, there are so many web browsers now, and it’s not enough that you just make your site accessible on the PC or iPhone.

You need to make your site accessible on a desktop, and on a mobile phone too.

If you make the mobile version of your site difficult to view, then you’re going to lose all those traffic.

Making It Easy For People To Read Your Blog Posts

Another thing is to make your website easy to read. People don’t like to click on a website and find that they’re going to have to read the whole thing or go to another site just to find the information that they want to read.

That’s why a lot of people recommend using an RSS feed.

You can use an RSS feed that’s structured as an infographic, which will make it easier for people to read your content, and also make sure that you always have new content that you can share with your audience.

What are your keywords?

Some people think that they need to use SEO keywords. I don’t think that’s necessary.

If you just write about something that you really enjoy, then it’s like the world is your oyster. If you like vanilla ice cream, then write about vanilla ice cream. If you’re into endurance cycling, then you can write about bike maintenance, or working out, or anything else.

Don’t force it. Write about what you’re passionate about, and you can use keywords as just that – keywords.

Make Your Life Simple

It’s very easy for a lot of bloggers to look at other blogs, and think that they should do the same thing.

But when you’re trying to write a blog, you need to make sure that you’re doing that for your own benefit.

For example, a lot of people write a lot of SEO links, and then they don’t make it easy for people to share their content.

But if you put in enough links, it becomes easier for people to share your content.

You can also use it as a marketing tool. If you put a link on your blog to your Facebook page, and when you share an article on your Facebook page, that makes your post more shareable.

Putting SEO Into Practice

What are some ways that you can apply these things to your own site?

For example, you could put the word SEO at the beginning of every blog post on your site. You could also put SEO at the end of every blog post.

And then you can write some more targeted keywords in the description.

You could also use your blog to write guest posts. That’s also a great way to put SEO into practice because that helps to spread your content to other bloggers.

Now, I know a lot of people might be looking at my website, and thinking that they’d like to try it out. And maybe that’s why they’re reading my blog.

Thanks for reading this guide, and I hope you’ve found some new tips that you can use on your own site.
